Introduction

Selset Education Centre was happy to host the University of Central Missouri’s first visit to Sri Kuala Lumpur International School since the pandemic. The esteemed university was in Malaysia for a few days earlier this month. Despite March being a hectic month for the school, our gratitude goes to Sri Kuala Lumpur for being hospitable and taking the effort and time to gather their Year 11 students to discover UCM and the USA education experience as a possible option after their IGCSE exams later this year.

Present was Dr Phil Hull, the university’s Director of International Student Services. Dr Phil is a veteran in the education industry and is well-versed with Malaysian students. The University of Central Missouri has long been an attractive option since 1871.

The Visit

Dr Phil Hull was at the school to introduce students to the US education system and the various interesting courses available to them at the university. He covered entry requirements, scholarship opportunities, lifestyle, and costs and ended the session with an interactive Q&A.

Students asked questions about the sports activities available and English proficiency requirements. Some even asked more detailed programme-specific questions.

Benefits for Sri KL International School Students

Sri KL students who take the IGCSE Year 11 exams are suitable candidates for American education, as their medium of English background prepares them for direct entry into freshman year at any US university. The University of Central Missouri is an excellent choice given its familiarity with Malaysian students, high-quality degrees and reasonable costs, making it a Top Value ranked US university in 2024 (US News & World Report).

Conclusion

In conclusion, this visit enabled students to be better informed about their future and gave them additional planning time to meet the entry requirements into the University of Central Missouri.
